Singapore leads the SEA region's IP champions

Coinciding with the IPBC event in Singapore this week are the IAM and WTR Asia-Pacific awards for Asian Companies that exhibit world-class IP functions and strategies. Of the 48 companies, most came from China and Japan.

Only 2 South East Asian businesses featured in the list:

- A*STAR, The Singapore government's Agency for Science Technology and Research - the national R&D agency

- Creative Technology - Singapore's multi media hardware powerhouse, which started as a computer shop in the 1980s

The list shows how far ahead Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan remain, with China having rapidly caught up with the elite IP owners.  Despite some progress (e.g. see other recent posts), most SEA economies still remain far behind the region's leaders, in terms of their corporate champions' IP sophistication.
