IP organisations in emerging ASEAN markets - Vietnam

In Vietnam, there are a number of private organizations for IP holders.  The major one is Vietnam Anti-counterfeiting and Intellectual Property Protection of Foreign Invested Enterprises (VACIP). VACIP members are foreign-invested enterprises (i.e. 100% foreign invested companies and joint-ventures).  P&G, Beiersdorf, Honda, GSK, Unilever among others have joined this association.  VACIP focuses on lobbying policy-makers (Ministries and the Government) as well as training and authority support.

The Vietnam Association for Anti-counterfeiting and Trademark Protection (VATAP) and the
Association of Anti-counterfeiting of Hanoi are alternatives that admit domestic companies. Some of these associations claim close connections to enforcement bodies as they have officers who are ex-officials from government bodies.

On the private attorneys side is Vietnam Industrial Property Association (VIPA) - IP attorneys across Vietnam can join it; the other is Intellectual Property Association of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) which only admits IP Attorneys in that city. These bodies are sometimes consulted by government on laws and regulations.
