Indonesian Supreme Court to hear trademark infringement case

Indonesian news agency Detik reports on a local cigarette battle which has made its way to the Supreme Court. The appellant is a subsidiary of leading and publicly listed cigarette manufacturer PT Bentoel International Investama Tbk, which is also a subsidiary of British American Tobacco. It argues that its registered NEOMILD trademark is infringed by defendants KTP a smaller Malang based cigarette maker. The case came from the Surabaya Commercial Court and is a rare chance for the Supreme Court to consider trademark infringement. As it was filed Monday a decision will be due in 3 - 6 months.
